Are you satisfied with your life? Do you think it could be better?
Have you ever wondered why from among people only a few become successful? Is it a coincidence?
Statistically, it is estimated that at least once a year each of us has a great idea worth millions.
Why your friends aren’t rich. Why we’re all not millionaires?
The reasons may vary, but one of the most important factor to become succesful is to realize what our true goals are. We need to clearly understand them and start to work hard to accomplish all of your dreams! The most important thing we need to do is designate the short, medium and long term goals. I can assure you – it is really simple to start. Let’s get to it.
What is the purpose?
„A goal is a dream with a deadline.” – Napoleon Hill
As I mentioned in my article in FinancialGoal.eu – we need to write our own goals somewhere. I prefer to write them on paper or using any other technological idea (wallet / wallpaper or sticky notes / smartphone / tablet / PC, etc.).
Important: when you write your goals – keep them close to you and look at them at least once a week (try not to keep it on one place always – e.g at your desk. Experience shown, that if the object is standing still in one place – you won’t spot it after couple of days (your subconscious mind will not allow you to focus on the object). That just the way it is. I red about this fact in Brian Tracy’s “Time Management” book. I prefer to use a well-made sheet of paper and write SMART list of your your goals. Then I place this paper inside my wallet.
There is nothing worse in life than focus on someone’s else goals, and forget about your life. You can live like in a dream, and this goal is close to you… But – what goal? What is your goal? Who would you like to be and what you want to accomplish. Finally – what did you do to become a better person? Do you know the path you need to follow?
“If you do not know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” – Yogi Berra
How to accomplish every – even the most difficult goal and what to do to avoid pain or defeat? The only method is to realize what your life goals really are and do everything to reach them.
In the studies of management as a subject you can find informations about the SMART method for setting goals. I red about it in my college years and I immediately liked this idea. SMART hits the jackpot. Method SMART is an acronym from the words:
S – specific, significant, stretching.
A specific goal will usually answer the five ‘W’ questions:
- What: What do I want to accomplish?
- Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.
- Who: Who is involved?
- Where: Identify a location.
- Which: Identify requirements and constraints.
M – measurable, meaningful, motivational.
A measurable goal will usually answer questions such as:
- How much?
- How many?
- How will I know when it is accomplished?
- Indicators should be quantifiable
A – agreed upon, attainable, achievable, acceptable, action-oriented.
An achievable goal will usually answer the question How?
- How can the goal be accomplished?
- How realistic is the goal based on other constraints?
R – realistic, relevant, reasonable, rewarding, results-oriented.
A relevant goal can answer yes to these questions:
- Does this seem worthwhile?
- Is this the right time?
- Does this match our other efforts/needs?
- Are you the right person?
- Is it applicable in the current socio-economic environment?
T – time-based, time-bound, timely, tangible, trackable.
A time-bound goal will usually answer the question
- What can I do six months from now?
- What can I do six weeks from now?
- What can I do today?
Have you ever take a trip to the mountains? before begin journey, you need to make a list of the most important things, identify the exact place of hiking and be well prepared. Without this tasks, you have no chance to climb to the top.
This peak is your long-term – the final goal. This goal can be treated in many ways. This may be a financial goal, a goal associated with your body, interpersonal or social change, etc. To achieve long-term goal, you must spread its feasibility on a number of medium and long-term objectives because:
“Life is hard by the yard, but by the inch life’s a cinch.” – Wolfgang Mieder
So you must put the aims and objectives that will lead you to where you want.
If you do not specify your own goal – life designate these goals for you. In other words – if you do not have goals in life – you will be working for someone, who has these goals.
Setting goals can also give your life a new and better meaning.
“It turns out that apparently only 3% of adults written their goals and plans, but it’s actually these people earn more than the remaining 97% of the combined” – Brian Tracy
I always wondered – why in our classes no one teach us about the strength of goal setting? Apart from studies (which it does not always move this issue) – setting goals should be for each of us a first step to find out, what our life shoud be. Unfortunately not many people lifelong committed to the objectives they serve. These are mainly succesful people and / or athletes. People usually are afraid of disappointment. This is also the reason why we do not try to jump beyound our boundries. Think about the words of Thomas Edison:
I have not failed 10,000 times. I have successfully found 10,000 ways That will not work. “- Thomas Edison.
Such a rule also profess successful people. Robert Kiyosaki in his lectures saying “Fail as many times as you can”. The first business is always hard and we will learn the best from only failures
Setting goals is very simple and I encourage you – if you haven’t written your goals before – do it now! If you have your goals and you strive for them, verify them with my approach and … congratulations! You are on the good track right away!
I assure you! Great things are waiting to happen – just start to write your goals. In the book “The Secret” authors speak about the power of the mind. If you really desire something – you will accomplish even the most difficult goal. Your subconscious mind will guide you on the road directing you to achieve your dreams.
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” – Mathew 7:7
“Whatever you shall conceive in the mind of man and raise his faith, can be achieved.” – Napoleon Hill.
Discover and use the power of setting goals
Setting goals will automatically increase confidence and broaden perspective on many things. When you know what direction you are heading – you discover more important things around you. For example: a creative person wants to find and create innovative things. For him every detail will be an inspiration. His subconscious mind connects everything together – like a puzzle.
“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they did not really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious that them after a while. “- Steve Jobs
For decades people written hundreds of books about the power of goal setting. I especially recommend bestsellers from Tony Robbins “Unleash the Power Within” and “Awaken the Giant Within”. All the authors agree, that setting goals is a powerful tool for making everlasting changes.
If you want to join a group of successful people – designate short-, medium- and long-term goals and execute them. Millionaires and famous people can not be wrong. Designate a clear, legible goal in accordance with the principles of the SMART and remember – the goals is only yours and made by / for you. It always depends on you how you execute them.
Always remember to write your goals. Writing is important – allows you to focus on your goals, plus you will remember them longer. Think now about your tasks. Work on your dreams every day until you cross the finish line.
The strength and determination to pursue your dreams in a fascinating adventure. Make your choice. Start now and do not turn back. You will become a man of success.
Ask yourself the question: what could be achieved within 90 days, when I want to reach the goal as bad as I want to breath? For the next two weeks focus on the objectives and see how your life changes. It is all about creating in the habit of action and remembering purposes.
Create goals is the creative process. Creativity wakes up in you at all times when you’re fascinated by the idea. Therefore, sit back and create a conducive environment (complete focus or favorite music – it’s your moment).
Take a clean sheet of paper and ask yourself, how to reach the goal? Start with the questions. I would recommend that at the beginning it was a goal of medium-term (up to 5 years ahead). If you want to start a business, write: “How do I spin own business for a specified time (eg. To 10 April 2016)?” Then, feel the surge of energy and write down all the possible answers to the questions (at least 20 responses). Any idea is good – creativity is the key. Write all that suggests to you the mind. Once that is done, select one of the answers and start to work on it. Start right away. Target will become real only when you work on it. Even the smallest step will be a success on the ladder of perfection. Perform as many steps as you can every day.
Work on your goals every day – no matter what happens! It is like a sport – if you want to have a great stamina and endurance to become the best runner – you need to exercise smart every day. If it rains outside – who cares? Get your clothes on and – run!
In the next post I will try to write exactly, how to create everlasting change in your life using goal setting. I will try to describe my own experiences on the positive impact of goal setting on my life. I encourage you to comment 🙂
